What is the Youth Olympics for Tolerance and Democracy?

The Youth Olympics for Tolerance and Democracy takes place in the Lausitz, in Germany. It invites young people in professional education like apprentices, students in vocational schools and the like as well as their teachers and training companies to take part.

The project aims to inform and sensitize young people in vocational education and their teachers about topics like Tolerance, Civil Courage and Anti Racism at school, in the company and in free time.

In a contest between young people from 11 countries you shall elaborate and deliver contributions to topics like Tolerance, Living together of different Cultures and against social exclusion and Xenophobia in vocational education as well as in professional and private life.

Who can participate?

Participation is open to interested young people in vocational training in the Lausitz, from other regions in Germany and from the European partner countries. The vocational education can take place in the company, at vocational schools or in special vocational training organisations.

What does the Olympics project offer?

The project offers the chance to broaden your horizons beside the everyday life of vocational education and to involve yourself with interesting topics. You can meet young people from other countries and exchange with them. You can participate at a one-week Olympic Village in the Lausitz and take part at additional trainings, compete yourselves at Creativity contests and enjoy Sports, Fun and Games. You will enlarge your language skills, learn something about the professional life inside and outside of your home country and hear something about the everyday life of young people in other European countries.

Call for the Olympics

Poster-lemon

Topic: „The blue Lemon“

Tell the story of the blue lemon which comes to a country where only yellow lemons live! What can be learned from the story of the little blue lemon in your school or in your company?

 

Set the story in a video, a theatre play, a song or in another presentation format of your own choice in English language and with a maximum length of 7 minutes.

 

Participation is open to young people in vocational education in companies, vocational schools und other vocational training organisations in different European countries

 

Closing date: May 9th 2011

 

Award

The prize fort he best movie of each country is the participation of the team at the Olympic Village 2011 in Germany

 

Additionally the 1st prize is awarded with 500 €, the 2nd prize is awarded with 300 € and the 3rd prize is awarded with 200 €. The Jury reserves its right to divide the prizes, in case.

The winners of the Olympics 2011 are fixed!!

The first prize went to the team from Sweden with its fulminant song and dance “DJ Bricket”

The second prize was taken by the team of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH, Germany with a story which turns the perspective of the blue lemon showing a German employee going abroad

The third prize was achieved by Hungary with a story about social exclusion within a school and how it can be overcome by love
